Guilty Pleasure

I've had that song on repeat for some time now & it never gets old. I've been waiting to see a video but nothing's popped up yet. The collab is perfect! As much as Wale can prove to be an ass with his Twitter antics, he can lay a track. Rick Ross has been on some of my favorite songs lately. Something about him seems like he knows how to be man in all situations. All girls like a man that will take care of business & just allow us to watch him put in work. (Message!) Jeremih's vocals just kind of tied the two together. Whoever put this together hit the nail on the head! My favorite line is Wale's "You'll probably find someone but you'll never find another!"

F*ck You!

There is no other statement in the English language that's as definite as this! There is no denying what's meant when this is yelled at you! I always get a chuckle when I'm going back & forth with my BFF about some random situation & she replies "Screw them!" I know deep down inside she wants to launch a super-sized f-bomb! I'm so glad that I'm surrounded by people who are completely okay with exclaiming just how they feel. In fact, I think people should live in the moment of expressing themselves and telling someone where to park their foolery. (Not so) Shamefully, I admit that I've dropped a few f-bombs in my lifetime. It's just something liberating about the whole thing! However, I've crafted quite a few classy ways of doing it. As much I'd like to stand on a table to deliver my message (hand gestures included), I've perfected my own ways of delivering the message fully wrapped in the grace of Southern girl. Please let me know if you'd like to learn a few ways!

Won't Let Nothing Show Through

Today, I had on a serious poker face! I can feel my exhaustion all the way to my bones. Since there is no such thing as time outs in real life, I had to keep pushing through the day's events. I survived my first real day under my new boss and an off-site event. I even dug down deep to muster out a workout, a quick trip to the grocery store and slight housework once I escaped the workhouse. I'm now zonked and heading straight for the Sandman's neighborhood!

Right to the point!

I'm such a fan of Anthony Hamilton & his sound! He's one of the few artists that I can see having REAL music that will be passed down to the next generation. This song was my favorite as soon as I heard it and I can never listen to it just once (or 3 times). It gets put on repeat for hours & never gets old to me! What can I say? It's just that good to me! I have all the love habits listed in this song. Not always the best way to love but I'd much rather love to the fullest than to never get the chance to do it at all. I guess that makes me a love dispenser!?!? Just like extroverts energize by being in their element of large groups, the opportunity to authenticate my love by way of true action refuels me. Not in a way that expects reciprocation but just to let someone know my love is there when they need it. I fully believe that when you give love from a genuine place without expecting anything in return, God will keep it flowing and it's our job to find new vessels to deposit it. He'll do for us just like He did for the widow in 2 Kings 4. I love the line in Eat~Pray~Love when she says that she wants to one day have the capacity to love the whole world. I wonder what that would feel like! Just imagine!

This past Friday, I got to see one of my favorite singers in the ENTIRE WORLD! No, I seriously ♥ him like no other! (Well...maybe a few others but that's neither here nor there.) By him, I elude to the one & only Reverend Al Green! He was a part a concert series here that we have called Live at the Garden. When I bough the tickets, I had no idea what a great show that was in store. The event was sold out & the most diverse audience that I'd ever seen. Because it's outside & you have to get there early to jockey for prime position on the lawn, I forgot to get pictures. Here are just a few that I snapped on my BlackBerry while baking to a crisp in this crazy summer heat!

A sporadic trip to Anthropologie resulted in some cool finds & unexpected smiles!

I picked this up for my little sister for her apartment back at school.

Originally, grabbed this coffee table book for a birthday/going-away present for a friend but snagged one for myself. Just too irresistible of a deal & cutesy factor!

OMG! I've been waiting on a video for this song since the album dropped! I absolutely adore Corinne Bailey Rae! This video shows a fun & sexy side of her that I'm sure we thought wasn't there after her tragedy. Yay, I'm now going to be in a super mood for the rest of the week!!

To me, With Love!

Ever wake up, peel yourself from the bed, head to the bathroom, glance in the mirror and think "Damn, I'm a hardcore cutie!" I don't have those mornings very often but I did this morning! It could have been the true full-night of sleep that I got that made me delirious but I was really feeling myself this morning. Even in my scarf, I had a little Halle Berry going on! To commemorate this glorious moment, here's just a few things that I love about me:

1. I smile so much that my cheeks hurt some days! I have no earthly idea why I smile so hard but I do. I have tons of pictures growing up that are nothing but teeth and gums! It drove my mom crazy when school picture proofs came back but I thought I was fine as wine. Now that I have braces, my extreme smiling skills are a million times more noticeable but I'm still okay with it.
2. I absolutely love my eyes! There is nothing super spectacular about them other than they're brown. I have friends with far more exotic colored eyes but I like mine better. They really have depth which isn't something you see everyday. It took someone to point this out me and now I'm totally obsessed. It's like looking into an endless series of open doors!
3. My hair in completely unruly! Two years ago, I made the unpopular (amongst my friends & family) decision to grow out my relaxer & go natural. For a year, I wrestled with this unknown texture and finally I've found my mojo. I've been wearing it "out" since last June and know this was the way I was meant to be. I've endured my fair share of stares and snide remarks but I'm unfazed, at this point. There are days that it does what it wants and I'm just along for the ride. No matter what crazy contortion my curls are in, I LOVE IT!
4. I LOVE MUSIC! I have one of the most eclectic thirsts for music and it's all because of where I live. At four years old, I was going down on Beale Street with my grandparents to listen to live music. I can't imagine a Saturday morning without the sounds of BB King, Johnny Taylor or Al Green. Now, I must have music playing at all times. I'm nerdy in that I like to research newer songs to find out where the sample was taken from. No musician or genre is off limits for at least one listen. I've rarely met a beat that I couldn't dance to!
5. I'm a nerd (as previously stated)! No one ever wants to admit this because society puts beauty before brains. I'm 100% okay with admitting that I like to read. Plus, I'm single-handedly keeping Google in business. I hate not knowing things so I have apps like dictionary.com and thesaurus.com on my BlackBerry. Don't judge me! At the end of the day, a pretty face is nice but don't you want someone who knows the meaning to all the big words that you know? *smirk*
6. I abuse the use of exclamation points! It's because I'm a great storyteller and no story has ever been done justice with just the use of boring, old periods. A Facebook friend brought this to my attention and I couldn't help but snicker. Sometimes, I just can't help it!!

I've been singing this all day! I'm still on Cloud 9 from my vacation and a potentially awesome July 4th!

Crazy two weeks...Let me show you it!

Ok! Now that I've gotten the pictures up, could you forgive me for not posting like I should the last couple of weeks? Sad enough, this is only a small fraction of all the pictures that I took. I just cleared my memory card and it's finding its way back to capacity as we speak. I'm not sure what it is about the month of May but I have been moving like crazy lately. Well, maybe I do know what it is...Memphis in May. It's an annual celebration in which Memphis salutes a country. There's also the traditional festival things like concerts, art shows and our world famous Bar-B-Que Festival. All of this just gives me a reason to play relentlessly around downtown. Hopefully, you get some kicks & feel like you're here amongst the fun!

LOVE! Maybe it's because I kept most of my diaries from college & I still catch myself writing in one now. Nothing like looking back to see how much you're changed & how you've opened up to life's possibilities.
